I am a professional drummer and teacher based in Orpington, Kent. I received my BA(Hons) Degree at the Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford and have studied privately with some of the countries finest players and educators, including Pete Riley, Ralph Salmins and Darby Todd.
As a teacher I love nothing more than being able to share my knowledge so that others can benefit, progress and enjoy themselves. I have experience of providing drum lessons to students aged 8 through to 60+.
“Sean has been teaching our 9 year old son to play the drums for a year now. We are very happy with the progress made. Sean is punctual, reliable and friendly and our son really enjoys his lessons.” Donna – Orpington / Biggin Hill
Whether you’re a beginner or advanced player, I can tailor a lesson plan to help you develop and improve in the areas you want. I have a vast supply of resources to help, including books, DVD’s and one-off lesson sheets and scribbles. Possible topics include:
- Musical styles
- Technique (rudiments, moeller etc)
- Co-ordination and independence
- Sight-reading and chart interpretation
- Repertoire (songs to play with bands, for auditions or just a bit of fun)
- Groove and fill playing
- Playing to backing and click tracks
“I have been having lessons with Sean for approx 6 months and have been playing on and off for over 50 years. I wanted to go back to basics and get rid of the bad habits for which I had acquired over long period of time. Sean took me back to the basics, teaching me to be aware of counting, stick height, accents and most of all to get the passion back into drumming which for me had changed and developed over the years. Sean has the ability to see your strengths and weaknesses which is just what I need; he also sets homework and allows flexibility on a theme. I feel totally relaxed with Sean and he has what is needed in teaching – that ability to work with his pupil at any level.
I strongly recommend Sean as your drum teacher at any level beginning, intermediate and advanced, I never thought of becoming a reader of drum scores but we will be working towards this in 2018 and looking forward to it.” Roger – Orpington
N.B. I am currently only able to offer mobile lessons.
Drum lessons take place in and around the Orpington area at your own house. Students will be required to have their own drum kit, electric drums or pad setup. Areas covered include: St Pauls Cray, Chiselhurst, Sidcup, Pratts Bottom, Bickley, Biggin Hill, Swanley, and Bromley. Please enquire for more information.
“I have been having drum lessons from Sean for nearly a year now, should have done it years ago. Sean is an excellent teacher and has a lot of patience, which he needs with me, as being of a (very) mature age it takes me a little longer to learn each new lesson. I would definitely recommend him.” Jean – Locksbottom

“Sean is a talented teacher. He has the patience to work with absolute beginners and the skill to support players with more experience. It’s been fantastic to watch how much my son has learned!” Caroline – Orpington
